TESTIMONIALS FROM Students

"My daughter has been learning violin from Anjna for almost a year. When my daughter expressed the desire to play an instrument as challenging as the violin, I wondered if it would be preferable for her to start with something easier - but it has been wonderful to see how much she has progressed under Anjna’s tutelage in a relatively short period of time. Anjna has built an affectionate and nurturing relationship with her, while maintaining expectations for her to work hard to achieve her potential. Anjna has a creative teaching style, and I appreciate that she draws on different strategies to engage my daughter when her attention or focus slips. She also works closely with the parents as partners in the process, providing us with feedback and suggestions after every class. We feel very fortunate to have Anjna as our daughter’s violin teacher.”

Parents of a violin + vocal student who began lessons at AGE 5

“I grew up listening to Carnatic music but never got a chance to learn. I had zero understanding of Carnatic music, violin, and how this new chapter in my life would turn out to be. I was apprehensive but took a step and that's when I met Anjna; she made me realize what I was hiding inside the box. She’s the perfect teacher who can understand from a student’s perspective and help them identify their strengths; whether it be in music or in personal life. Words cannot describe the positive energy she radiates. As a beginner, I am really happy that Anjna is my teacher and I highly recommend her to anyone who is passionate about learning music or violin.”

Adult beginner voice + Violin student

“As someone who has been studying music for 15 years, I can honestly say Anjna is one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. Since beginning to learn from her in 2017, my musicianship, attention to detail, and above all, ear have improved tremendously. She creates an environment that is nurturing yet rigorous and has been very accommodating to my busy schedule. Most of all, I appreciate how Anjna takes compositions I bring to classes and uses them to teach other important musical concepts I hadn't considered on my own. I have already recommended Anjna to many of my closest friends and will continue to do so in the future.”

“Anjna is a teacher of the highest degree because she herself cares so deeply about music and understands it to be of prime evolutionary value - this ethos allows all of the various engineering skills which she patiently and concisely conveys to be charged with extra heft and electricity - this founding energy provokes her students to not only learn a particular interval (for example) but to understand the interval as a vital component of their own voice - of their own life. Are you listening?”

Professional Pianist/composer studying Carnatic Music for Cello

“I studied Carnatic violin with Anjna for my first time ever in an intensive study program over the course of a month. Leading up to the first classes, Anjna was extremely intentional about understanding my musical goals and my personal motivations to study Carnatic violin. During the classes, she built a foundation off of my years of Western Classical study that allowed me to feel like I did have some grounding while coming to Carnatic music as a beginner. She designed kinesthetic and multisensory exercises to train my ear and immerse me in the style of Carnatic violin and worked with me to strengthen my ability to sing as well as to play. We built a repertoire off of a core piece that we studied, and also developed technical building blocks for fingerings and bowings. Anjna also encouraged me to approach my study in a community setting, setting up times for me to sit in on other students' lessons, attend musical gatherings, and meet others studying with her as well. Finally, being able to study with someone who was sensitive to the personal and emotional aspects of studying music as well as developing my technical skill was a gift. If you can take classes with Anjna, do it - you won't be disappointed!”
