I have had the great joy of running a small school of students for over three years. Education is not merely a vocation for me, but a purpose and a passion. My approach as an educator incorporates the hefty and technically virtuosic foundations of the Parur school of violin as well as mindfulness-based movement, breath and vocal techniques which allow this virtuosity to blossom from a place of ease, joy and expression. Thus, your experience in my lessons will involve a wholistic transformation, one where you are able to navigate music, creativity and your daily life with more confidence, awareness and intention. Having been trained in Carnatic music, Hindustani music, western music and theatre, I pull from multiple modes of learning to curate a lesson plan that works best for your musical *and* personal goals. Music is ultimately an expression of our deepest questions, feelings and hopes. As such, my teaching is rooted in spiritual awareness and the student can use music as a space to interrogate personal, political and intellectual questions and move through the world with lightness. My hope is that together we can build a more musical YOU!

TESTIMONIALS FROM STUDENTS
"As someone who has been studying music for 15 years, I can honestly say Anjna is one of the best teachers I have ever encountered. Since beginning to learn from her in 2017, my musicianship, attention to detail, and above all, ear have improved tremendously. She creates an environment that is nurturing yet rigorous and has been very accommodating to my busy schedule. Most of all, I appreciate how Anjna takes compositions I bring to classes and uses them to teach other important musical concepts I hadn't considered on my own. I have already recommended Anjna to many of my closest friends and will continue to do so in the future."
- Advanced student studying Carnatic music and improvisation for electric guitar
"Anjna is a teacher of the highest degree because she herself cares so deeply about music and understands it to be of prime evolutionary value - this ethos allows all of the various engineering skills which she patiently and concisely conveys to be charged with extra heft and electricity - this founding energy provokes her students to not only learn a particular interval (for example) but to understand the interval as a vital component of their own voice - of their own life. Are you listening?"
- Western classical pianist and composer studying Carnatic music for voice and cello
"I studied Carnatic violin with Anjna for my first time ever in an intensive study program over the course of a month. Leading up to the first classes, Anjna was extremely intentional about understanding my musical goals and my personal motivations to study Carnatic violin. During the classes, she built a foundation off of my years of Western Classical study that allowed me to feel like I did have some grounding while coming to Carnatic as a beginner. She designed kinesthetic and
exercises to train my ear and immerse me in the style of Carnatic violin, and worked with me to strengthen my ability to sing as well as to play. We built a repertoire off of a core piece that we studied, and also developed technical building blocks for fingerings and bowings. Anjna also encouraged me to approach my study in a community setting, setting up times for me to sit in on other students' lessons, attend musical gatherings, and meet others studying with her as well. Finally, being able to study with someone who was sensitive to the personal and emotional aspects of studying music as well as developing my technical skill was a gift. If you can take classes with Anjna, do it - you won't be disappointed!"
